Lincoln Mall is not dead! And the poster using the name manageratlincolnmall seems to be providing spurious and misleading information. As a store owner in Lincoln Mall Mod Cut I can assure you that no 30 day notices were given out. We were not asked to leave, and we are still open and continuing to expand.

Sears chose to leave because of an impending change of ownership. I find it interesting that this would motivate them since they had more favorable terms, as it relates to the land and building (I think they own it), than the rest of us merchants. It is my opinion that they took this opportunity to downsize an Illinois location with a convenient excuse. Remember the pressure they applied to the state legislature last year to continue the substantial tax break they received for their Hoffman Estates corporate campus. Their financial situation necessitated several store closings last year, yet they did not close any Illinois locations while that was at play.

We have been informed that the mall was purchased on June 1 and the new owner intends to continue operation, which would seem to indicate that some further investment and renovation is forthcoming, although nothing has been announced at this time.

It is up to the residents of Matteson to decide if any part of the retail sector here will thrive. Choosing to spend your dollars in your community is the best message you can send to other retail businesses, large and small, that this is a viable area in which to invest. We think it is. That's why we are still here.

BTW, Sears hasn't closed yet, after declaring they would be gone by June 1. They must still think there are dollars for them to get here. A new sign has also gone up stating that the Sears Auto Store will remain open.

I own a store in Lincoln Mall and the 30 day notice is an outright lie. There are new owners and they plan to operate it as a mall. What's the purpose of lying about the closure? I opened my store 3 years ago and even then the "rumor" was that it was closing. My business is doing fine.

Hilarious.
