The real estate range is very wide. There are homes currently for sale that are just over 100,000 and there is a property out there right now that's listed at 2MIL.
Woodstock has a fantastic downtown square, which is surrounded by several old victorian homes, most of which are registered with the historicial society.

What about schools? We have a toddler, but envision staying put after we purchase a house. My husband will also be commuting to Lincolnshire. I think it will be about an hour?? We thought of Elmhurst also but it sounds like the commute to/from will be awful with the construction on 294.

I lived in Elmhurst and it is a great place to raise a f amily. You are also right about the commute. I would say 1/2 hour-with no traffic.Rush hour, fugadaboudit. Schools are good in Woodstock, but mapquest your commute to your job.Could be tough.Did you consider Vernon Hills? Excellent schools, nice family areas, lots of shopping all around. Also Buffalo Grove, same thing.Easy commute to Lincolnshire.I have a relative that takes her bike from VH to L'shire.

I second the suggestions of Vernon Hills and Buffalo Grove and I'd also add Arlington Heights. I used to live in Arlington Heights and my commute to Lincolnshire was 20-25 minutes during rush hour.

Vernon Hills, Buffalo Grove, and Arlington Heights are very nice and close to Lincolnshire, however if $$$ is an issue you get much more home for your $$$ in Woodstock.

You also get schools that aren't nearly as good. I should have mentioned that in my previous post. If you're looking at schools in established suburbs that have been popular with families for decades, and farther out areas like Woodstock, it's not really comparable.

What are the downtowns like in Vernon hills, arlington heights and buffalo grove? We like the cute downtown area of Woodstock and Elmhurst. Dont really want to live in a cookie cutter neighborhood (I realize they are everywhere these days) with lots of strip malls. Arlington Heights seems huge - like a Schaumburg, which dont really care for. Thanks
