Since no one started a thread on this, I will. What a mess. At first they though nobody got hurt but after almost a day of digging they found a car with two bodies. They will be investigating it for months. And who knows how long before thttp://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-07-04/news/chi-train-derails-in-near-northbrookglenview-border-20120704_1_train-cars-train-derails-freight-trainhe repair the bridge.

The wreck was a tragedy.

Late this afternoon I did hear about the unfortunate news that a body was discovered in a car.

If I am understanding correct the train was on an overpass and the train cars had fallen .

The train was overloaded by several tons. The bridge was not rated for the tonnage carried even though it was distributed across 28 cars. The engineer was using due diligence; the train was traveling less than the posted speed limit. The question is how many employees knew the tonage exceeded weight limits? .

I am sure there will be a long study completed .

And of course a lawsuit for the family who lost their loved ones.

If it was neglect then the family certainly deserves any money coming to them.
Even though it will not replace their loved ones.

Like mentioned a tragedy

The scene on the news looked horrific, literally like a disaster movie. I cannot image how terrible it was for the folks with the unfortunate timing to be under the railway bridge. I think the loss of life in the SanFran traffic bridge collapse must have been worse but still...

Madigan has blood on his hands again. We have unlimited funds for corruption, but nothing for infrastructure.

This is terrible. I take it the body found in the car was a motorist on Shermer Rd. At first I thought car meant traincar but it seems I was wrong about that. RIP

I doubt that. The railroad is solely responsible for that bridge, and there is no passenger traffic on that line.

Hmm I heard the most likely cause was the extreme heat causing the rails to expand out of their proper gauge and alignment.

This had nothing to do with Madigan, or the State, or even Glenview. Its all on Union Pacific.
