Next time, drive down Kenilworth, Augusta, and Marion Street
there's a reason 52000 people pay an arm and a leg for taxes over there. White bread suburbia it ain't.

You've skirted around the perimeter of Oak Park on Roosevelt and North. From the Eisenhower trench, you can't get a good view of Oak Park either.
Granted, North and Roosevelt aren't the nicest stretches of Oak Park, being primarily retail, and a bit run down at that. Both roads are shared with other municipalities which have, shall we say, a lower socio-economic profile than Oak Park. Incidentally, both roads are undergoing rehab/reconstruction. Lots good things to look forward to along both corridors.
Other than seeing older buildings, I don't know what conclusions you can draw from the viewpoint of the Eisenhower. If you get up close you'll see that the houses are in good condition and sell for 300K+ (not bad for a freeway view).
If you actually drive thru the center of Oak Park, you'll get another perspective (as the previous post mentions, try Kenilworth, or maybe Euclid Ave). Oak Park's a mix of some mildly seedy areas and some gorgeous, ritzy areas. Its not Hinsdale for sure, but its not ghetto either.

Currently I live in Orland Park and for me to end up where there are thugs, drugs, and hookers I have to drive 30-45 minutes over to Harvey or out to Joliet. Now that is an area that I would consider good (Orland Park) Not where I can walk to the hood from my house (Oak Park) So, until Oak Park can pick up and move away from Maywood, Bellwood, Chicago, and Cicero, I won't be recommending "newbies" into an area that skirts and flirts with "da hood"

You can keep Orland Park. When I want to move to the land of vinyl siding, strip malls, Hooters, and subdivisions named "Bubbling Creek", I'll know where to come calling. I would imagine it would be the same day my soul dies.

Im not going to get into a pissing match with you. If you like being surrounded by scummy areas on three out of the four sides of your town then by all means, Oak Park is for you!
Oh and here is a little blurb on our supposed siding style homes Orland Park according to you is known for right off the village's building codes and regs.
5. All residential dwelling units shall contain face brick or stone on not less than fifty
(50) percent of exterior walls and shall contain face brick or stone on ninety
(90) percent of each first floor elevation or ground levels of such units. All materials
for the remaining ground level wall surfaces shall be approved by the Building
Director. All materials used shall be compatible as a group and with the surrounding
structures. (Ord. 2570 5/2/94 & Ord. 3281 - 8/16/99)
Care to read more about our crummy building standards then here is a little reading for your enjoyment. http://www.gobrick.com/omnisam/commo...OrlandPark.pdf -

I travel around Oak Park on a regular basis. Oak Park as I said before has some Beautiful homes, it is the area that surrounds Oak Park that is horrid and even parts of Oak Park itself. Someone on this forum said there is def. "riff raff" around the area, well ya most of us would call them gangs.
