It was founded in 1921 in Kansas. I am pretty sure it was in Chicago just a few years later.

I wish, there are a few signs that it'll return. IMO I think JIB is much better than Culvers. I heard there was some person who got extremely sick from eating there at one of their Chicagoland locations in the '70's and ever since then closed all there locations in the area. Hardee's is making a solid comeback however, which looks promising as it seems like a chain relevant to JIB (both southwest based). I've also heard they're rapidly opening spots in Indianapolis and downstate Illinois, So perhaps we will see some. I love many Southern Cali chains like Del Taco, JIB, Carl's Jr, and I hope for sure they come back into the Chi-Town market. There is a diverse amount of people here who'd love all of them.

There were several JIB in the Chicago area. I went to the one at 6 corners and there was one on
Waukegan Rd. a bit north of Golf Rd (which was open late at night). Back then, I would have
cravings for their deep fried tacos (but hey, I was a young teen- )
There are several JIB in Illinois.

Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr., Taco Bell, McDonald's, Wendy's. They are all in the same tier. They are all garbage. It's fast food. I would say In-N-Out is one tier above because they actually use real beef and cut their potatoes into fries on site, but that's about it. They have a bunch of Jack in the Box's in Southern California and their food tastes like crap. Taco Bell a higher tier? Hahaha you gotta be kidding me.

Any opinions on Andy's Custard? They seem to be a big expansion locally...

I'd say JIB is two steps above all those listed, (but that's just my opinion), except for of course In N Out

If I'm going to indulge, it's going to be at Tom & Eddies or another "higher" quality fast-casual restaurant.
