If your husband will be working at Sears, then you should just look at buying in Schaumburg or in the part of Hoffman Estates north of I-90. Schaumburg is a nice suburban area with great access and the train to Downtown Chicago, and it is only about 15 minute drive from anywhere in Schaumburg to Sears.
Now, the northern portion of Hoffman Estates is very close to the Sears campus (10 mins tops) and has a great selection of older (1975+) aged homes in a very good school districts. It is an easy 15 min drive to the train station in downtown Palatine for trips to Downtown Chicago. Though, Palatine Rd. can get slow during rush hours.
