Moving to Algonquin or Lake in the Hills help?
Looking for help finding information about Algonquin and Lake in the Hills.
My fiancee and I are moving from the East Coast to Chicago. We have never lived in IL before and know no one to ask about the surrounding areas.
We have heard Algonquin and Lake in the Hills were very nice areas to live.
We both work from home and my fiancee will have to travel to the airport weekly. We wanted to be within an hour drive or less to the airport. I will be covering the Northern half of IL for work. So we want to live North of the city.
Looking for info: crime, type of backgrounds of people living there, things to do, cost of living all information will help.
We are a recently engaged couple looking for an area with younger couples. We have no kids. Any information will help, thank you.

Since no one answered I would ask what your price range is and then see if we could steer you to an area BESIDES Lake in the Hills, which is fine if you have kids and really dont mind the cookie cutter sub-divisions seperated by strip malls. "Old" downtown Algonquin is nice, but there are probably better areas for a young couple. Once again,,maybe your price range will help us help with more suggestions. There are few "unsafe" areas in this part of town (parts of Elgin and Carpentersville would be areas I would not suggest) but so many nice safe areas to choose from within the distance you mention.

I would have to disagree about it not being a good area for young couples. With all the commerce built up along Randall Rd, there is no shortage of things to do, good restaurants, great shopping, etc. There isn't a huge amount of bars/clubs/night life, etc; but it really depends on what you are looking for specifically?
I would say that first we will need to know your price range, then we can help more. But all along Randall Rd in LITH & Algonquin is all a very nice area.

My fiancee and I are looking for a home $275 - $300K.
We could live anywhere because we both work from home. We want to be 30-45 min from an airport because my fiancee will fly out weekly. I will be covering Northern IL(basically cut the state in half, I cover the top). I will drive so the home location doesn't matter.
Any information will help. Thanks!

I still think a young couple would be bored in those two areas. If you dont mind living in a sub division or being surrounded by strip malls and not much in the area of a "town",I would recommend Schaumburg or Hoffman Estates over those areas,as there is more activity, young people, and closer proximity to the vitality of Chicago. You could check out Arlington Hts.as well. A great area, train to town, close to O'hare and a vital "town" area.Is a town home or condo in your consideration? That may open up other options. I wish you good luck on your move, hope you find what you like

Thanks for the info. We both do not want a townhome or Condo. We are looking for a single family home.
