Hi Everybody, thank you ahead of time for your time and input on these questions.

We'll be relocating to IL in the next six months, we're planning on purchasing a house on a 1/2 acre to 2 acres. Spending less than 600K on it; hoping for less though . We have very active elementary aged children who are in reading intervention programs at school, they're pulled out to attend this program only; all other curriculum is taught in their primary classroom. We're looking specifically at the areas of Lake Zurich, Barrington and Schaumburg. These are all within a reasonable commute to work. I wanted to know if anybody has any experience with the reading intervention programs at the schools in these towns? Are there particular schools better than others in these towns for their intervention program? For that matter the school's in these locations overall. We're trying to take into consideration the junior high and high school in deciding. I should add they're active in sports, and art programs. Schools are our first priority in choosing where to live, park and rec centers secondly (they love to swim).

Also, any opinion about Inverness?

Insight's??? Opinions???

Thank you!!

Not sure if the acreage and budget will work. Property taxes need to be taken into account as well. Maybe Prospect Heights fits the bill. Lots are 1/2 -1 acre. elementary D23 and Hersey HS are solid school wise. Park District has pool and you are close to Schaumburg.

I would scrap the idea of acreage...just too expensive in the Chicago suburban area with taxes and upkeep. Concentrate on having a nice yard of some size in a good school district.

Out of those I'd choose Barrington first due to top schools, beauty, charm and quaint downtown. The other two are lacking in these things to me.

The Greater Barrington area for the combination of acreage/terrific schools can't be beat.
Lake Barrington and North Barrington are likely going to give you the best bang for the buck. Consider making direct contact with North Barrington Elementary for information about their reading programs.

North Barrington School- 847-381-4340
District 220- 847-381-6300

You are less likely to find the acreage you are looking for in Inverness. Those schools that feed into Fremd highschool are rock solid.

As for Schaumburg and Lake Zurich, most lot sizes are in the 1/4 acre or less range and the schools generally do not score as well as Barrington or Inverness. This does not mean your children will not receive a good education if you choose to go this route.
