This is such a ridiculous definition of “more amenities.” I guess Tuscaloosa, AL has “more amenities” than any city in Indiana by this definition.

Does South Bend get the same acts as the Tinley Park/Hollywood Casino Amphitheater with its gigantic stadium? I doubt it. Other amenities in Chicago suburbs include the Morton Arboretum, the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Brookfield Zoo, all of the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in Oak Park, many suburbs that are actually on Lake Michigan. There’s also the Ravinia Festival all summer. The list goes on. Evanston seems to be doing alright with Northwestern...

I wouldn't dispute there's more to do in the Chicago burbs. I've thought about that and maybe it's just my kids, but kids sure seem different today. When I was a kid, I spent most of the summer out and about, but I can't get mine to ever leave the house. Bought them bikes, they have several manicured acres here with big trees to climb. Trails/forest preserves all over the place but nope! they just prefer to stay inside and remain glued to their "technology". So I started asking myself, why am I paying a premium to live here? Between income tax and property tax, I could save $10K+ per year by hopping the border and as long as we have Internet, the kids would likely never even know we moved.

For us, as long as we get a nice yard with pool and there are some decent local events, shopping/restaurants, we're good. And we would make the occasional short trip to Chicago for any happenings there...

This is more of a parenting issue than anything. Set limits on their technology and you will be good to go.

Well, it’s settled then. Mishawaka is where it’s at!

South Bend just opened a new Casino...... so those acts that would go to Tinley Park can go to South Bend too.
Should do some more research before being so dismissive.

I’m sure places like Evanston and Oak Park and Naperville consider themselves second or third tier to South Bend -_-

In reality, no one but a homer (BRG) would say that South Bend is the highest amenity suburb in Chicagoland.

It is NOT a casino. It is an amphitheater that hosts many nationally recognized acts on a weekly basis. In just one week alone it is hosting/hosted Kesha, Macklemore, Imagine Dragons, Salt N Pepa, Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson. The Warped Tour is coming in a week. The Hollywood Casino is just the sponsor. I seriously doubt that South Bend gets that many acts in a week, much less at a single venue.

The reality is that the median home price in South Bend is about $82K, $107K in Mishawaka, and about $242K in Granger. If that area was such a hot market, wouldn’t home values be higher? I’ve lived there. While it may be improving, the amenities were not all that superior and Notre Dame didn’t contribute all that much to the town since the students primarily have to and do live on campus most of the time and there really isn’t the same sort of college town atmosphere you get in a place like Bloomington.

Ummm the Four Winds in South Bend is by any definition a Casino....... Even according to Federal LAW it's a Casino. 2nd South Bend has a bright future unlike Illinois
