I agree with you kid, the sweets are good, especially the passion fruit coconut cake they have there.

I try to stay away from the sweets, so we go to Sugar Fixe for the kiddo, then around the corner to that hole-in-the-wall Mexican place for me. If my wife comes along, she drops in to the Venezuelan place across the street. We all win!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll check them out and see what I think!

I like that hole-in-the-wall Mexican place too, I believe they changed ownership sometime last year, but still good. IMO for cupcakes, Crumbs is the place to go in Oak Park... The nice thing about that section is that there's enough variety to please everyone. I've been hitting up Hu Tong lately, as their Pan Asian selection offers a nice variety for a quick meal on the go.

It did. Lido's until it went out of business unfortunately. Its now a Pan-Asian place, last time I was back in Chicago visiting friends/family. But they are around - they are scattered, and Oak Park is much more of a coffee shop place more so than just about any other suburb in Chicagoland.

Although not coffee shops per se, you do have bakeries with good coffee, such as Prairie bread kitchen, Red Hen bakery in the downtown area.

Used to be called the Golden Lamb, I don't know if it still is. Always thought that was an odd name for a Mexican place.

I used to go to the one in Lakeview. I occasionally went there for a German language group, where we got together to practice speaking.

It's now under new management, and called "Boss Burrito". Still good.

The pan-Asian place is "Hu Tong". It's got a good selection of dishes... The Bi Bim Bap stands out to me.
