Question How to get to Chicago area from Northbrook, IL?

Hi,
I will be in Northbrook which is about 20 miles out of Chicago. I'm trying to find a way to take public transportation to get to such places as Millennium Park, Museum of Science and Industry, Navy Pier, Sears Tower, The large X-mas Tree (not sure its exact location), and the magnificent mile. I know there is the Northbrook Metra station about 3 miles from where I will be. I believe its refered to as the Milwaukee North West. I really need help from someone who can give me great directions to get where I want to go. Thank you in advance.

The Metra station in Northbrook is on the Milwaukee Dist North line and you can take it to Union Station in Chicago. From there take the following buses to get to your destinations:
Millenium Park: board the #151 bus on Canal St and get off at Randolph & Michigan, which is the northwest corner of the park
Navy Pier: from Union Station walk one block north (toward Adams St) on Canal St and board the #124 bus on Monroe & Canal. This is an express bus to Navy Pier
Sears Tower: this is within walking distance from Union Station - it's across the river on Adams & Wacker
Mag Mile: The magnificent mile is Michigan Ave, and I believe the Christmas tree is located here somewhere. You can take the #151 bus again and get off anywhere along Michigan
Museum of Sci & Ind: take the #10 bus from Michigan Ave, otherwise take a cab because it's complicated getting there from Union Station

If the Northbrook Metra station is full, you can try parking at the "Braeside" Metra station at the corner of St. John's & Lake-Cook Road (about 4-5 miles northeast) at the Highland Park / Glencoe border along the Union Pacific North line which terminates at Ogilvie Transportation Center (a nice, clean, modern station about 3-4 blocks north of Union Station). Another option is the North Glenview station, which is the next stop south after Northbrook on the Milwaukee North line (same line as Northbrook). ahava's advice is good & accurate. Carry a map, use a combination of CTA buses and CTA trains (el trains) if necessary. The fare is usually $1.75 for bus rides, $2 for train rides, 25 cents for transfers (VERY useful). Transfers allow two additional rides within two hours after the first boarding. Good luck!
