Moving to Chicago
I will be transferring from Southern Cali to Chicago in the next few months for work. I am looking for advice on places to live w/some details on their benefits. I have been doing a little looking around and I have decided that the Western 'burbs are probably what I am looking for, specifically in Dupage County. I am a 34yr old single woman looking to purchase a home in the $500k range. Shopping and dining are musts. Some place for me to feel safe and secure in the neighborhood and w/the investment in the property as I hope to plant some significant roots. Appreciate anyone offering technicolor of the neighborhoods of Dupage county to help me with my housing search.

Best shopping and dining in DuPage = Naperville. If you're willing to expand your search to Kane County, Geneva is also known for both.

I have pics on C-D here under the "suburb pics" if youre interested *(link below). You should look into Wasco, St. Charles, Geneva, Naperville, Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Downers Grove, etc.

I would say that Naperville has a lot more going on for a single, 34 year old. It has a nice downtown area with a lot of bars/restaurants, whereas Wheaton is fine, but significantly more conservative.

A younger single woman ? I would bet my investment dollars in a place like Arlington Hts. Busy active downtown, very sought after area with all the amenities AND easy commute to both the city and O'hare. Also, Elmhurst for the same reasons ( and I was once a single woman in Elmhurst and did very well. )GLen Ellyn, Wheaton are nice but quieter, and Naperville is family central , but again, great, large and busy downtown and a good investment. St Charles is nice/active, good investment and its sister town Geneva is a favorite, but further from the city.
