Most everybody has heard the phrase - - "Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego"? Well, as the Chicago stampede heads for Elburn, Illinois - - similar questions are going to start popping up, "Where In The World Is The Elburn Railroad station?" And It is definitely not in the town of Elburn.
On either side of the tracks very close to IL -47, all of the property has been taken up by in - town business owners. So there was no room to place a new railroad station in that area. So the 'new' station was moved about 3/4of a mile to the east of downtown Elburn.
To get to the Elburn commuter railroad station, one has to drive about 1/2 mile south of town on IL -47. Then one turns east onto Keslinger Road - - at the stop light intersection of Keslinger Road and IL - 47. The road to the railroad station is almost directly under that particular Elburn 'Golf Ball' water tower that you will see near that intersection.
Then taking the METRA road north among a number of corn / soy bean fields - - it will take you to the station and its parking lot.
The parking lot has a maximum capacity of 300 cars. And it will cost $1.25 per day to park there.
Elburn, IL is the western terminus of the Elburn to Chicago commuter service. It does not go beyond Elburn. And so there is no commuter railroad service to the De Kalb tri - city areas. The continuation of tracks that you will see west of Elburn are only for freight service.
The Elburn railroad station is only a platform adjacent on the south side of the tracks. At the last time I was there at the Elburn station (last July), there were no "LUE" services. However, it is now possible that it has changed and perhaps they have installed plastic outhouses. In reality, I don't know. Of course the railroad passenger 'cars' have their own "LUE". If it happens to be locked, just ask the conductor to open it.
For railroad schedules between Chicago and Elburn - - look on the internet for the METRA / Union Pacific "West Lines" train schedules.
