We are looking at a home in Wauconda that we love. The school district as a whole doesn't seem that bad, but Wauconda Grade School has poor ratings and test scores. Wanted to see if any one has any info on this school.

Thanks

Elementary and middle seem good according to the Illinois School Report Card

http://iirc.niu.edu/Default.aspx

Scores in the upper 80's and low 90's are not poor in my opinion, especially in a fairly diverse district. Seems like the elementary and middle schools have scores in the high 80's. AYP and AWS need to be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. Lets say your school average ISAT is 95%, if your school does not keep increasing that to 100% they will end up on the watch lists.
High Schools scoring near 80 and above are good, above 90- outstanding. Wauconda is about 60%. More telling is when you break performance down by subgroup, groups that typically perform much higher are only doing marginally better.
The high school is fair to mediocre. Some AP classes offered, but very few compared with high schools in Northern and NW Cook and the better Lake Co. high schools like Deerfield and Stevenson.

Barrington, Stevenson and Lake Zurich are high schools with better reputations.

While I don't disagree with the numbers that are reported above and generally agree with the statement about the high schools quality it is my belief that the very weak ISAT tests are such that if a schools is not well above state averages for meets / exceeds (which are running around 82%...) than I would have reservations that the school may have some issues.

The switch that is coming with the more widely used PARCC assessment that align with the "Common Core State Standards" are likely to expose just how bad the ISAT has been in helping parents discern which schools are good/meh/terrible...
