A good rule of Joliet is, the farther West you go, the better. A lot of Joliet's East side is poor and crime ridden. Joliet's West side is a world apart, lots of shopping and nice subdivisions. The area around the Westfield Louis Joliet Mall is very nice (near route 30 and interstate 55), and route 59 is lined with shopping and restaurants. I would stay as close to these areas as you can afford. (I have no idea what apartments go for in this area.) Shorewood and Plainfield are very nice as well.
