There are many places on the Fox, Illinois, Des Plaines Rivers that are shallow enough to wade out into. I dont typically see people fly fishing though, but Im sure it wouldnt hurt to try!

As for golfing, youre in the area of the world with the most golf courses. Heck, Chicago invented the 18 hole course, and there are hundreds to choose from. The one that I hear rave reviews about is the course at Cantigny in Wheaton. There are way too many to list here, but I can assure you that youll be in heaven.

Skateboarding is very popular here in the western burbs. I know of 3 skate parks in the area, 2 of them I highly recommend. The first one is in West Chicago at Reed Keppler Park. Its not that great, thats why I dont recommend it. The second is in St. Charles, off of Rt. 31, just south of downtown, thats a pretty good one. The best, however, is off of Kirk Rd, between Rt. 38 and Tyler Road in St. Charles. That park is huge and is the best around.

SoCo,

Just remember that you are only a hop-skip and a jump from Wisconsin. When I lived in the Chicago area, we frequently went to Wisconsin for camping. There are plenty of places to fish. I suspect you are fly fishing for trout. I think you will have a better chance of finding trout in the colder Wisconsin waters. Illinois has more in the way of Bluegill and Crappie in lakes.

Default Response to relocation from Colorado

Shorewood is ok, but it is very far away from everything. The only way to get there is I-55 and that is a traffic jam (expect to sit for quite awhile). Orland Park is booming and its close to all the expressways and the schools are out of this world, but you will not find anything for $250K; maybe an older townhouse.

I dare you to wade in the Fox or Des Plaines... you'll step on a syringe and get HIV... maybe slip on a used condom, hit your head on an abandoned refrigerator, get tangled in fishing line and drown to death... Your fishing days are over if you move here unless you maybe join a private club.

Kleer,
Who p****d in your cornflakes? Sheesh, it was just a question. I've got a brother in law there who fishes almost daily, no problems. He's a water slapper though, not a fly fisher so I thought maybe someone else out there had some better insight.

He's on speedballs, obviously. Pay no attention.

Ive waded in the Fox River many times, never stepped on anything other than sticks and rocks. Pulled out MANY fish, including largemouth and smallmouth bass, carp, channel cats and flatheads, bluegill, walleye, perch, even a baby muskie (about 7" long)!
