I am moving to downtown Oak Park with my girlfriend next week. I love watching all sports so I'm wondering if there will are any sports bars on Lake Street. I tried Google Maps but all I see are restaurants (some with a bar but not a sports bar).

Thank you!

On Lake St probably the only place is Bar Louie. Not far from Lake St is Poor Phils at the corner of Marion and Pleasant. In south Oak Park is the Avenue Ale House. You could also check out the multiple pubs on Madison St in Forest Park.

Definitely Forest Park on Madison Street is the place to go. It's quite close to downtown Oak Park. Tons of little pubs and restaurants with all the games playing. Oak Park doesn't have many bars in general because it used to be dry in the past, and Forest Park has many. You'll want to know this strip if you are moving here.

We had good burgers, pulled pork, fries and beers recently at a new place called "Scratch" in Forest Park/Madison St recently - with the hockey game on all the flat screens.

Fat Duck in Forest Park (formerly known as Duck Fat) also has great beer and burgers.

Is this whole “dry past” downtown (Lakae st) image in OP changing? Not too good for reputation…

I think so. Most restaurants serve alcohol, and there are many restaurants with attached bars. Just few bars that only serve alcohol with no food... maybe none? But honestly I forget about its dry past until posts like this pop up, asking for bars.

I guess it depends on the reputation you want to have. Oak Park definitely isn't Wheaton.... But for a progressive place, Oak Park does have its share of restrictive guidelines/rules.

Lake Street Kitchen and Poor Phil's. Madison Street in FP has a ton of options. In south OP, try Kinderhook or Avenue Ale House.

Agreed most restaurants serve alcohol but are not aimed at a bar sports crowd. ~ not the same thing and I think only bar louie will give Carc what he is looking for in that specific (walkable) area ...

The problem with Madison – as to what I believe this poster is looking for is distance. 1 mile breaks the walkers paradise for someone wanting life in DTOP. This includes me… you don’t want to drive when you live so close to a Downtown – especially for drinking. There needs to be more options on/near Marion. The "Dry history" makes OP look bad...

BTW - I still have not done my second visit to confirm if you guys will get stuck with us in the OP…

Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, but I feel there should be more lounges and something for dancing. I know there are families in Oak Park, but there are a lot of singles also. A nice restaurant steakhouse or lounge with a DJ would be great in a places like Oak Park and separate itself from the sports bar crowd of Forest Park.

This niche I feel would work great in a place like Oak Park. It actually worked for awhile at Michigan State. So if it worked there, it would definitely work in Oak Park.

There is also Barclays American Grille just off of Marion south of the tracks. They have a bar with Tvs all around it.
