Advertisements

I've been watching the west chicagoland craigslist ads for a house or condo in the Lombard area, and we've had several who gave either emails, or phone numbers, but nobody answers, and nobody responds to voicemails.

What's that all about? Why do people advertise, but never respond to the responders?

What do you want us to do about it? Track 'em down and make 'em respond to you?

LOL!!! Well, no. I wouldn't presume to think you're the mafia, so, just wondering if you had some insight on why people don't respond.

I used Craigslist a lot in my area, and everyone has been very responsive, which is why I'm a little puzzled.

So many people complain about the quality of CL shoppers, but in my experience many of the SELLERS are no better. Since the ads are free many sellers feel less obligated to answer inquiries promptly. If they were paying for them like the "old" days of newspaper print ads, you can bet they'd be a lot more conscious and responsive.

Of course, a lot of advertisers are tires of looky-loos and low ballers, too. If you find a particular property that especially interests you and that you're serious about (and can also afford it) be persistent in trying to make contact. That will make the difference between you and the vast majority of other CL shoppers.

Two reasons, based on personal experience:

1) The apartment is no longer available
2) Bait and switch - scams

Most of them are scammers. And these are fake ads. They just want your SSN.

LOL! Yeah, there's those, too.

Really, they're not too hard to spot. My wife responded to some twit from Nigeria. Figured it out real quick, but you know what? The doofus wouldn't give up!

I gotta say, they've up their game. This guy managed to get a real Louisiana number over VOIP and claimed to be from there. That's not to say it's been "upped" much.

Anyway, finally got some responses from people. Finally got a GOOD person responding. Makes a whale of a difference.

some people are probably just testing the waters as to whether there is interest or not.

Pretty much this, I work in real estate and our properties show up on cl all the time without our approval.
