Then find someplace else to work where you won't be exposed to cigarette smoke. It should be the business owners decisions as to what should be allowed or not allowed in their establishment. The worker has the decision to work where they want to work. No one is telling you to work in an establishment where smoking is allowed. Not to be harsh, but that is the truth. It's not OSHA's say if cigarette smoking is allowed or not, it has to do with work environment such as chemicals that are used in the work environment. Okay, then, computers should be outlawed by OSHA because they cause carpal tunnel. OSHA should ban office work because all people do is sit at their desk all day without any physical activity. OSHA should ban computers because they cause eye straining. OSHA should ban fast food equipment becuase of radiation from the cooking equipment. No matter what job you do, there are always health risks. Just imagine the people that work at the tollways during the middle of winter and can be exposed to freezing temperatures and get deadly colds. Or imagine the construction worker that enhales smoke exhaust from cars during rush hour.

Then let's have government supply us with our daily meals and tell us what we eat everyday. Let's have government tell us how many children we are allowed to have. I guess we are not responsibile adults to make decisions on our own. Let's just have government run our lives because we can't seem to do that on our own.

As does exhaust from cars stuck in traffic your local industrial factory. Yes, we smokers are blowing smoke in your face to kill you intentionally. We also have the help from the so called "global warming". According to the enviornmentalists, pollution from motor vehicles, air conditioners, factories, and the cutting down of trees are posing a threat.

Smokers are a minute of the problem. If American's were so concerned about their health, then we wouldn't be the most overweight nation in the world.

LOL!! My point exactly! There are many risks in our present day work environment besides the cigarette smoke.

We as a society have become so tense about certain situations. We all need to start relaxing and stop blaming others for certain problems. The biggest joke of all is a smoker suing a tobacco company for getting cancer.

So, I guess I will sue Starbucks for my heart pulpitations and panick attacks due to the large amounts of caffine in their product. I am just a normal American citizen that doesn't know any better and need the government to protect me. Or maybe I'll just spill my cup of Joe on me and sue because there was no warning that my coffee was going to be hot.

That's great and all, but believe it or not, there are some people who find the ability to smoke on the job a plus. That's part of the farce of the smoking ban even in bars; the concern for the employee's health. Now, maybe it's just the bars that I specifically hung out, but I doubt it, but nearly EVERY bartender at the bars I go to were smokers and smoked on the job. To tell them you're concerned about their health as the Smoking Nazis claim is to patronize them. They're probably more irritated about the ban than anyone.

And mark my words: small towns -- and heck, maybe even big cities -- are going to see this as a new revenue stream. "Look, a guy smoking 12 feet from a workplace entrance instead of 15 -- let's go write the establishment a ticket and collect $250." Or "The no-smoking sign isn't displayed to state standards -- let's go write the establishment a ticket and collect $250."

More civil liberties being taken away from Americans.

Its a sad day for Illinois, and a sad year.

Today its cigarette smoking, tomorrow could be alcohol altogether, and then maybe some even more severe bans.

Hey maybe the US government will tell us what books and newspapers to read soon! Won't that be great!!!

While we're on the subject, if you drive on the Edens Expressway every day to work, your chances are better at getting lung cancer from car exhaust, than if you are a two pack a day smoker.

Keep that in mind all you health nuts.

Interesting. Can I get a reference for that information?

Thanks.

I find it funny how much smokers feel they can ruin other peoples days and lives for that matter. I'm glad that smokers have to take their disgusting habit out side where it belongs. Welcome to the 21st century.
