Good pic, for those that insist that "chicago style" pizza is exclusively deep dish - NOT!

Back to gypsys, there was a problam I have read about that "they" read up on obits, then let months pass and contact the widower offering something (companionship, housekeeping etc) then they "fall in love" with the man and you can guess the rest. End of bank account.

I just thought it was silly for North Riverside of all places to be warning people about gypsies. It's not a particularly affluent town - I'd think the gypsies would have enough sense to hang around La Grange or Oak Park instead if they wanted to stay in that area. Perhaps if North Riverside fixed up their crappy mall and got rid of the gangbangers, or had a police force that went after people keeping a house full of guns and selling them to gangs in Maywood (ABC7Chicago.com: Police recover more than 400 firearms in home (http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=News&id=205320 - broken link)), I might take them seriously about the gypsies.

On the contrary about gypsies. I've seen gypsies my entire life. If you want to see gypsies, go to Whistler's restaurant on Devon Avenue, 1 block west of McCormick in Lincolnwood at about 2:00 a.m. Families of them dine there late at night. Also, if you want to see some of the most elaborate grave headstones you'll ever see in your life, visit Montrose Cemetery on Pulaski Avenue, just north of Bryn Mawr. The graves are on the north side of the cemetary with (monuments..literally) I'm talking huge monuments with elaborately etched likings of the deceased that probably cost $50k or more. They will blow your mind. I have relative buried close to them and often see droves of them pulling up in Mercedes, BMW's etc. These people have some cash.

I have friends who live in Portgage Park and many homes there were robbed in summer by gypsies. You'll be in your backyard hanging out in summer and 1 or 2 of them are inside your house taking stuff. They don't necessarily hang out in affluent areas. They go after easy targets and middle class areas very often. One thing I love about gypsies is their music! It's awesome.

They target the elderly. Also have a number of "home improvement" scams going on. Like driveway resurfacing, and roofing. I remember this from my childhood, reading warnings about this in the papers.

I live in the south suburbs not the near west suburbs but one time two kids, I mean they must have been 14 or 15 years old with the thickest Irish accent I ever heard in my life, asked if they could re-pave my driveway. Is this what you mean by gypsies?

There are "irish travellers" which is a type of gypsy I think. They have been on the news. I don't hear about the scams they pull though. Maybe someone else knows though.

Actually, someone I know, had their driveway done by a couple of irish guys (same ones, they put their kids to work), and they did a pretty good job I must say. Gotta be 8 years ago, driveway is still in one piece.

Default Irish Travelers

That's a type of gypsy called Irish Travelers. Irish Traveller - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They're transient and run all sorts of home improvement scams. The kids don't go to school, but are well versed con artists. From what I've heard, they enjoy fancy cars, jewelry ect...
