Joliet Junior College
Hey I’m from a small town in Georgia. I will be attending Joliet junior college and I wanted to know more about the city and its surroundings. Does Joliet have nightlife as far as clubs? How far is it from Chicago? Also is there a lot to do in Joliet? I’m 21 years old and I love having fun. My main goal was to move to Chicago, but it was hard for me to locate student housing coming from out of state.

Joliet is probably a 45 minute drive from downtown Chicago. (More if you are making the drive in rush hour.) Joliet has some good parts of town, and some shady parts of town. Joliet Junior College is in the good side of town. (East side is shady, the college is on the West side.) Definately, for a young person who wants to have fun, Chicago is the place to be but would be a long commute out to school every day. Are you looking for an apartment in the area? The area around the Louis Joliet mall is good, and route 59 (Shorewood/Plainfield) is lined with shopping and restaurants. Downtown Plainfield has a cute little downtown with some little bars. If you travel north to Naperville, they have a great downtown area with lots of nightlife. Joliet itself, might not have the nightlife you are looking for.

The locals call it JUCO for short. I agree with sbd78. But I can't figure out why someone would come from all the way from GA and inquiring about the Bar scene. The Empress Harrah's Casino is a mile west of JUCO along Rt 6. Check out RockDale for a real experience.

As An Fyi
Dear Friend:
I know very little about Joliet, IL and even less about Joliet Community College. However, I am already at 'work' increasing your education. As an FYI, another very good community college is Waubonsee Community College near Sugar Grove, IL. So if ANY reader has an interest, then log onto Waubonsee Community College -- Where Futures Take Shape. for infor regarding that college.

Jameson's Pub on Black Rd. and Infantry! Great place to drink. Not too far from JJC. JJC is a really nice junior college and everyone always makes fun of it---I don't know why. I took 3 classes there over the course of 2 summers sessions. It has a great culinary program.
Also, If you like to have fun, head to downtown Joliet to the Harrah's Casino. If you like baseball you can't go wrong with seeing a Joliet Jackhammers game at Silver Cross Field. Its a great venue. Joliet is not that far of a drive from Naperville, where there are TONS of bars. That is where the real night life is at. Just take Rt. 53 all the way up to Maple St. and hang a left. It will run you right into Naperville. To get to Chicago, take I-80 west to I-55 North and you will run right into Chicago.
BE AWARE....stay away from the East Side of Joliet. For your safety. Especially at night.

Probably not the place to find Mr Right but Joliet is also home to RT66 Raceway (NHRA drag race facility) and Chicagoland Speedway (NASCAR, ARCA & IRL). Both tracks will have night events this year

The Colosseum Complex!!!
Rockdale has a pretty good nightlife goin on, but Mokena is where its at! My favorite bar is the Colosseum Complex, it has the biggest beer garden on the southside, a dance club, and the sports bar. its about 30minutes from Joliet but DEFINATELY worth the drive! It's right off I-80 and 191st. The address is 19081 Old Lagrange Rd and its behind the Dennys.
My other favorite club is Bourbon St. But it's a pretty far drive. The website is: 115 Bourbon Street

JJC is near a couple bars I've frequented, like Double J's off Jefferson (Rt. 52) and Essington and City of Champions is on Jefferson too, but that place is kinda questionable. Jamesons and Heroes West are good and Pom Poms is ok. There's tons to choose from in Joliet, and like everyone else said, if you want, you can take a short ride to Plainfield or Naperville too.
There are clubs in downtown Joliet like Sapphire, if it's still there, but my friends went there a couple years ago and got beat up!!! They think it was b/c they stood out from the rest of the crowd that night, being cute and blonde? They would never go back again. To me, downtown seems scary at night. Samy's is by the mall and they have a dance floor too.
Once you're out here and know your way around better, I'm sure we can help you out some more!
