I never saw "sold" data for it, so maybe....

I remember her calling me from the house when she previewed it. I asked her about it when we got here and she said it was long gone. I'll ask her for the sale info on it though just in case. Thanks for reminding me.

Most reliable source of info for Highland Park I've encountered. We also are hoping for Ravinia-- although the size yard we want is proving tricky to find.
FYI Ravinia had an Earth Festival in the spring. And a farmer's market every Wednesday. They also had a neighborhood association at one point-- not sure how active it is now-- that showed me there was an "activist" streak there somewhere.
If you get back up that way and happen to drive down Beech Street, look out over the ravine at the bridge. You'll see a really neat mid-century modern that was used in Ferris Bueller's day off-- for the Ferrarri falling out of the garage scene.

Yes, Ravinia is very environmentally concious. I think I may have mentioned that the woman who started the Cool Globes project last year is a Ravinia resident. The elementary school won an environmental awareness award this past year and actively recycles, has a green week, etc.
The Ravinia Neighbors Association is still active. The organization was formed when Walgreen's purchased a property on Roger Williams. A group of Ravinia citizens were actively opposed to it initially. Since the Walgreens being there was a done deal, the Ravinia Neighbors Association was formed to work with the developer and the city in order to make sure the Walgreen's they put on Roger Williams wasn't the typical Walgreen's box. If you've seen it, you'll see they were successful in coming up with a design that fits within the character of Ravinia.

I figured we'd spend the 4th in Lake Bluff so we can really see the residents there. I just can't figure that place out. It seems like it is too conservative, but I haven't written it off yet because we love that house. I wrote down the names of two political candidates that I saw signs for in the community and I just looked them up, one was Dem the other was Rep. My gut is telling me that it might be a Stepford Wives scene there. I just don't know. It seems too good to be true. A bumper sticker I saw there summed it up best: "I don't live in the real world, I live in Lake Bluff!" For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how that could be a good thing!!!

4th of July in LB is like being in Mayberry. I don't think it's Stepfordish, it seems more Americana to me. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Paige I agree with you about Ravinia - my sister loved it there - they were over on Burton. Everyone always seemed so nice and layed back. They even kept an outdoor fireplace in their back yard and in the summer they always had their neighbors over for a glass of wine, a little fire and some music wafting over the trees. It was really nice. I used to meet my sister and we would walk our dog all over the neighborhood. We had nick names for some of the places we'd see like the shamble on DeTamble (that blue house on the corner of Greenbay and DeTamble that they just can't sell). It is so charming there.
I didn't feel that pushy, kind of overly assertive HP vibe you can sometimes get in other areas of HP - just laid back and cute homes and as you said, very walkable.
Jay are you sure you guys can't rent for a few months? It seems like this is such a big and important decision. I would just hate for you to pick something and not like it.

That is how it was designed. The Glen used to be Glenview NAS. You might also look at Golf. It has Glenview Schools. It is centered around a Metra Station. It is a 5 minute drive to I-94, Old Orchard Mall, and Downtown Glenview. Golf is pretty expensive, and looks a bit like Ravinia.

Ugggh. Golf is not the place for a treehugging, breastfeeding liberal. They'd shun you!

Whats wrong with Golf? People there seem to be nice. On of my friends who grew up in Evanston's sister moved to Golf after she graduated college with her husband. They were very liberal teachers and are quite happy and comfortable living in Golf. Jay do you think you might want to bring a nice liberal edge to a community? You can do that in many NS towns without being shunned.

Jay,
HP is great, LB is great, LF is great. HP is more liberal treehugging, but LB is very green and family oriented. You could probably be happy either place. LF is more conservative, but larger, so you would probably find lots of nice people to hang with.
Also there is no law that if you live in LB, you cant have friends in HP. If you become involved in groups you will meet lots of different people who share your values.

Golf is very very small and very conservative. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone with very small children, its too hard to find playmates.

LOL! The shamble on DeTamble... I'm surprised someone hasn't purchased that property and torn it down as I think it's on a decent sized lot. I guess a spec house is an iffy proposition on Green Bay Road though.
I think you mentioned your sister moved to Evanston. Why did she leave Ravinia? We did it the other way around, started in Evanston and then to HP. I also agree that sometimes HP can feel pushy and assertive - like at Sunset (even though there's no better grocery!)...
You live near the pie house, right? I have a good friend who is a couple of blocks down the street from the PIE. I always wanted to go in that house when it was for sale because it was/is so bizarre.
