When I lived in Chicago we had to use "blue bags" to recycle and you had to purchase them. When we lived in a condo we had recycle cans for the building where we put our recycle materials. My parents own a building in Evanston and have recycle bins and cans that the city picks up. I would have your land lord contact either the building management or the association to find out what the problem is. That is pretty sad, especially in Evanston. Evanstonians pay enough in taxes that everyone should be entitled to a recycle bin for goodness sake!

I've been frustrated by this as well. I think anything bigger than a three-flat doesn't have a bin in the city, which is just ridiculous. When people talk about Chicago being the "greenest city in the U.S.", this major factor is conveniently ignored. Green roofs and bike lanes may be more sexy and trendy, but a comprehensive recycling program might do more good.

I wonder if you can contact the city to find out who the vendor is that does the recycling and tell the vendor that the bin is missing from your building? Or perhaps find out who the Board Pres is and speak with that person about contacting the vendor. It is really annoying that no one seems bothered by this. The only place I know where you can take your recycling is on Oakton. Not easy to take young children to the car with all their stuff and lug recycling down with you. I can't believe they don't have this worked out at your building. How irresponsible!

Maybe you can fashion a costume and make the building appear to be a three flat?
That suggestion is as rediculous as the city saying they draw the line at three flats. Maybe NU would like to throw in a few bones to help the city? |

Cali,
Were you living in Evanston when the city council attempted to tax tuition? Now they're attempting to tax their endowment. Schoenberg: Don't count on endowment tax | Evanston Now This study shows how NU boots Evanstons economy: http://www.northwestern.edu/newscent...5/economy.html |

I have mentioned this many times on this forum as well as on the street in conversations with people. But it aint just Chicago and Evanston ;it is many portions of the Chicago area that is FOS when it comes to recycling.

Well I don't know how to get the word out, but it needs to be done because this is a sad state of affairs.
