I checked on resale units, there are 27 houses available from about 300-600k. The commute will be longer than the NS, but this might be the right place for you.

We talked about this early in the thread. We're actually supposed to be going there sometime this week for dinner at one of my husband's co-workers house. My husband has been there and said the homes are prairie style which just isn't us. I like the idea behind it, but I think it fell short of the original ideal.

Someone at the park suggested Glenview. What does everyone think?

Glenview is nice - I love the Glen - They have Wagner farm which is a fun place to go with family. It's kind of cool to drive in suburbia and see a bunch of cows in a field.

The commute will be further then HP or LB. Glenview is North and West of Evanston - Evanston, Wilmette, then out Lake Street to Waukegan gets you to Glenview.

There's nothing wrong with Glenview, but I can't imagine it meeting any of your criteria.

Was Risky Business based in Glenview? Or was it Glencoe?

There are just so many movies based in the North Shore...

This mom said that there are more kids in this suburb than any other in the north shore. She said they have wonderful activities for families and children. She also seemed to think that we might be able to find our mid century modern style houses there. I'm going to check mls as soon as we can get the girls to sleep. Their schedules are all messed up!

Its like Lake Bluff, but more sprawling, and with chain stores. There's nothing wrong with Glenview, but in many ways its more conservative than the NS suburbs. The other places you've looked, Evanston, LB, HP, LF all have some interesting and unique qualities (as well as beaches), but Glenview is sort of generic suburbia.
