From what I understand, Northwestern University football home games don't quite pack the stadium the way some other Big Ten places do. That is probably a good thing for nearby real estate, right? We are wondering how loud and busy it gets near the homes and yards 1-5 blocks from the arena. I would expect it to be ok in the home, but what about the yard? Thank you for your insights! That area is quite well suited for our needs and constraints, but one has to wonder...

How close to the stadium are you talking? DM me if you wish. I lived not too far and it was not the noise that was a problem, but sometimes the students littering when they were returning from games and walking past the houses on our block.

The NU football team has had some success and there is a HUGE group of both undergrad and graduate / professional alums in the broad region that do enjoy taking in a game. That said the season is short, Evanston is VERY strict with regard to things like parking / tailgating / public intoxication and the lack of access to expressways / cheap hotels really does not attract the kind of raucous crowd that one might see in a more football centric Big 10 setting...

Basically, if you have reasonable expectionations and realize that even high schools having marching bands that practice across the country while new moms try to get infants to nap you will probably be No worse off than folks in many many spots where large crowds are part of the mix.

one nice thing in both Evanston and Wilmette: home owners have been selling out parking spaces in their driveways for years.

a little off topic, but related:

has anyone heard anything about Ryan Field and Welsh Ryan Arena renovations? NU has been talking about both for years but it seems like there is an info blackout on this. That expensive new facility being built on the lake fill shows that the university wants to invest and that stadium and arena work needs to take place. Anyone know anything?
