Can you see that your question is a bit too broad?
I'll make an attempt. Dallas has a warmer climate. Winters are shorter and less severe. Chicago area summers are way better. You can actually open your windows on some summer days and enjoy the fresh air without suffocating from heat. Sure we get hot and humid, but we also get mid 70's-low 80's with a breeze and low humidity.
Chicago has consistently more trees and bigger ones. When I was in Dallas considering a move, I kept mumbling "Where's the trees?!"
More older town centers. Many of our suburbs were railroad communities that still have older homes on a grid pattern. Sure we have our sprawly sub-divisions, but more older communities with the charm that accompanies it.
Big Lake Michigan versus small reservoir lakes.
Many forest preserves versus some.
Big, busy airport versus big, busy airport.
