Berwyn would be a much better place had residents wised up a decade ago.
The former Mayor and HR director had a plan to rid the city of the Teamsters union, and their one sided contracts.
Voters chose to keep the corruption intact, just like Madigans' district.

The existing mayor was re elected by a large margin so he must be popular. He did face a strong challenge. Half the aldermen/women are gay. Berwyn is becoming home to many gay people from elsewhere in Chicago.

Regardless, they are still paying more than they should for city services.

A fairly recent bill I dug up from last Oct through Dec for three months was garbage 148.74, sewer 5.61 and water 254.06. This is for a two flat building. Other services are on property tax bills. Overall, the city services in Berwyn are good and very responsive. There have been complaints about the rigorousness of the building department and its permit and inspection process, as well as the excessive tree trimming and no bid contracts.

This year, the District 100 tax increase the voters approved will kick in if you are in South Berwyn, as well as a tax increase associated with $30 million dollars in bond debt recently issued by the city for the pensions. Plus a reassessment.

Most people in the south are probably looking at $400-500 a year on an SFH, starting with the next tax bill. Maybe $200-300 in the north. It will be more on an apartment building.

I think there's more to come. The school districts are laughably underfunded for growing destination districts, even with the recent increase. And we can only hope that the new $11 an hour minimum wage that the city declined to opt out of doesn't stall business development, which would cause even more pain for the taxpayers.

Suburbs generally allocate 1/3 of their city budget for police, Berwyn spends double.
I live in Elgin, double the population of Berwyn; we spend the same amount. Your police union contract is the reason:

Of our $120M annual budget here in Elgin, only $35M is allocated for police. Berwyn has $38.5 out of $52.5M allocated for public safety.
