I think this is using two existing underutilized rail lines. There must not be one from Joliet that links up easily with other South Suburban Metra stops.

Actually the EJ & E (now owned by CN) continues on to Gary. If somehow it can be funded down to Joliet, there is no reason it couldn't be extended eastward later. Nothing against downtown, but it would finally become possible to ride the train from Joliet (and maybe eventually Park Forest) to Schaumburg without going there. But getting back to the subject, it wouldn't make either more exciting.

With $ being tight and the state's matching funds ability unrealistic with the 9 BILLION deficit, I doubt this will be built for a while unless it is all federally funded. I wonder if the ridership would justify the cost.

Back to original question, many former city dwellers move to suburbs for better schools, larger lots and a less densely built neighborhood.

I think for many it's your first item: schooling for children (or planned children). I love the city. I love the noise. I love everything about it. But no one can convince me that the CPS system is anything approaching decent, and private schools are expensive as hell.

I peruse the condo listings from time to time and it's amazing how many of them have cribs in the bedroom. I think reality sets in for even some of the most hardened urban dwellers when their kids get close to school age.

It's not a time-sensitive topic, so I don't see why it should be deleted or locked.

I would think that continuing an old thread is preferable to a proliferation of identical, separate discussions.
