What about Oak Park? Quick ride on the Green/Blue to downtown and its very walkable.

-Something fairly affordable (500k or below)
-Walkable area - they are very active and like to be able to walk to get their coffee and newspaper, church, restaurants etc. and simply walking for pleasure
-Medium sized house (ideally a one story house between 1,400 square feet and 2,000 square feet)
-A yard (they love to garden and have a dog)
-Downtown accessible, preferably by train or something other than driving (they don't want to live IN the city but would like to enjoy its amenities on occasion and prefer not to drive unless they have to)
-Quieter, safe neighborhood
-They prefer older housing stock instead of newer "cookie cutter" areas (that being said NICER older homes would be best, since they're not particularly interested in putting in a ton of work)
-They're Catholic, and are looking to be active members in a parish

Obviously schools aren't an issue, and while they do want access to Chicago, it's not like they're going to be commuting there every day. (Or anywhere, for that matter.)

Hmmm, I think that's it.

Any thoughts?
I would suggest getting in touch with a realtor, I can suggest one if you would like.
