I am starting a new Job in Burr Ridge, IL in 34 days, I have to miove in 30 and I have no Idea where to look for a great place to live. I need advice. I am a renter and I have no children, but I do have pets. So any advice would be great. I would really like to be with in 20-30 minutes of my work. Thanks in advance! -K- |

I do know that area's closest affordable burbs are lagrange, westmont, and countryside. Try those. Burr ridge and hinsdale are too pricey for most people.

I think so. I went by there last February, and it was all lit up, but I couldnt see if anyone was snowboarding/skiing from where I was driving.

I think La Grange is too pricey for most people anymore. Brookfield would be a better bet.

Thanks everyone. We (my DBF and I) are looking at Plainfield or Joliet as being in our price range. What is the opinion on those areas and how would the drive be to Burr Ridge. My work is right off the 55 so that makes it a little easier for me.

Joliet is old and very shady/crime ridden in many spots (particularly the east side). If you had to live in Joliet, Id stick to the far northern and far western edges. The city is growing like mad and has many nice new areas, but the city overall still needs improvement. Plainfield is pretty decent I guess. I mean, its safe and nice, but its kinda blah. Theres tons of shopping along Rt. 59 and other areas, and a short drive to Naperville which has everything in the world to do. If it were up to me, Id pick Plainfield, even though Im not crazy about all the tract homes.

Agree with Steve-o, much of East Joliet is bad and not recommended. The far West side is newer and nice and growing rapidly (this is the side of Joliet that borders Plainfield), so if you go with Joliet, go with the West side. Plainfield is a nice town, it has a nice little downtown area with some bars, restaurants, and shops. Shorewood is in this area and is a nice town as well.
