Hello everyone!

So today I was in a rush to catch the 7:19 train and when I got to the parking meter, I forgot the space that I parked in. It was cutting close to the train arrival time so I took a guess...and was wrong.

Lo and behold, I get off the train today and there's a lovely ticket on my car . The fine is $20 if I pay in the next 9 days, but as my username suggests, I'm not exactly rolling in the cash. I've only lived in Vernon Hills for less than a year, so I'm not really familiar with how often you can get tickets waived and whatnot.

I do have the receipt that says I paid at 7:17 am for space #122 (I parked at #127) today.

My questions:

1. Is there a way for me to contest it other than a hearing? I see that there's an option for a "Non-Resident Waiver of Hearing", but I'm a resident.
2. Should I even contest it? In the end, it IS just $20, but I've read things about court fees if I don't win my case? I'm not very familiar with tickets...
3. If I should just pay the $20, what is the best way to pay it so may parents don't find out?

I thank you in advanced for your help!

I don't know the answer to your questions but I bet if you call and explain they'll waive it. They may ask you to show up with id and your receipt.
