Default Transferring to South Suburban College

Hi,

I'm a student starting classes in January at South Suburban College at Oak Forest, IL. I am originally from Rockford but currently live in DeKalb. The commute to Oak Forest from DeKalb is an hour in a half, usually closer to two hours, so I would like to move closer to the school.

However, I understand that many places in the South Suburbs are unsafe, and other places further north are out of my price range. I'm just looking for a simple apartment, could anyone recommend a safe area for a female college student to live?

Thank you for your time!

What is your price range? You don't have to go way north to be safe. Oak Forest itself is safe although some apartment complexes may not be the best. Orland Park and Tinley Park are close by and safe. Crestwood and Chicago Ridge and Worth could be possibilities. The Daily Southtown's online classifieds could be a good place to look. The south side of Chicago is often forgotten territory in other Chicagoland resources.

You want to live in Homewood. It's a beautiful, thriving town, that feels more like a small town then a suburb. There is a vibrant downtown, lots of new big box shopping and restaurants on Halsted, affordable housing, and it's less then 15 minutes from South Suburban College. It's also quite safe and has fairly frequent service to the city on the Metra Electric line. For apartments, check the local paper.
