HOw much to pay Nanny-2 kids(2.5 and 0.5 yrs) (Naperville: health insurance, house)

Would like to hire a Nanny. I was wondering what thetypical rates are for a live-in Nanny to tkae care of two kids...I live in Naperville...

I have a friend who has a live-out nanny with two kids and she gets 600.00 a week. The nanny is there from 6:30am-5:30pm which is about $11.00 an hour. They pay her extra for any time over 5:30. They provide a car for her to use with the children. I would think a live - in nanny would be paid less because you are providing room and board. Would you cover her health insurance too? My sister in law was a professional nanny for 14 years. She was a live in who traveled with the family and was on call 24/7. They paid her a weekly salary and extra for any hours after 6pm and on weekends. She was paid when she vacationed with them too. Her health insurance was paid for, she was given a car and she had her own room and bathroom and ate meals with the family. She made about 30k a year. Make sure you double check the laws about having a live in nanny. For some reason I was thinking the nanny had to have her/his own room and bathroom. I also remember some interesting tax laws too. You may wanna consider an au pair if you have the space to house one in your residence. They are dedicated and pretty cheap and they work long hours.

From what I've heard the au pair route has even more strict guidelines to follow. I just had to fill out a 12 pages referral form for a friend who is looking into having an au pair for the summer.

I'm in favor of the strict guidelines because and au pair could really be exploited in a private home far from where she is from. So its good that the host homes have to provide references.

I have an au pair in one of my night classes and she seems pretty reasonable. I've even seen her in the 'hood pushing a baby carriage. She has good English skills and is from Eastern Europe but I'm not exactly sure where.

... maybe I'm in the wrong profession, but I really doubt nannies make that kind of money.

Move to New York City. There nannies and mannies make can make over 100K. But you have have to graduate from a good school or you won't be considered.

No joke-- Do you want a professional or an uneducated, green haired, polkadotted skin, $8.00/hour non-english speaking, web-toed, banglavochian taking care of your two young kids.
