I like La Grange too. There is also La Grange Park (1 min. far from downtown La Grange, by car), where the houses are gorgeous too and taxes little bit lower. Next Metra train station is Western Springs, also very nice, with lots of old charm, like La Grange and La Grange Park.

LaGrange Park is excellent for young families. Great schools and great social and activities network. Nice homes range from the $280K-$500K+. Taxes are $approx. 5,500/annual. Also, there is substantial revamping of the 31st corridor planned by the village. The goal is to make it more shopper friendly with restaurants and more retail taking advantage of the Brookfield Zoo traffic down the street.
