Crime is certainly not a problam/issue in any of the burbs mentioned. There really is no crime problam so to speak in the NW burbs, parts of Elgin and Carpentersville yes, but I cant think of any other. Anyone think differently ?

depending on where in Algonquin ... but yes, long drive. I'm thinking Rte 62 is the best option.... but i certainly would not want to do that daily.

as for the mention of Geneva .... I'd say 35-40 min on a good day. we used to take North Ave out that way. and with traffic getting worse every year....

but for the north 'burbs or up near Algonquin .... since the construction on 290 was completed a few years back, the traffic has not been that bad at all, surprisingly. [until they decided to start that construction project right at 90 .... that has caused nightmare traffic in that area going north and south ... though it is currently on hold for the winter.]

I just mapquested it, and it has it at 24 miles.... basically, Rte 62 to 90 to 290 exit thorndale. NO traffic ... maqpuest has it at 37 min.

Itasca is not a big town... so once you get of the highway, you can be at your work within 5 min or less. thorndale at rush hour can be a nightmare though... so many trucks. trust me, i live there.

How about Naperville to Itasca? I see it is 19.82 miles and per mapquest it is 30min...for a daily commute would it be brutal?

I have to admit ... i dont know much about Naper.

With Naperville being really large, i think it would all depend on where you live. My son took a class out there, in the SW part of Naper, and he drove in rush hour [class started at 6pm] and he said it took him an hour to get there. [i think he took 355 to 34, then west.] my guess is, if you lived near one of the tollways [355 or 88] you could do the drive in 45 ... but again, i'm making an educated guess.

hopefully others, who know the Naper area better can chime in.

Braves31 ... I'm trying to think of other 'burbs that may be closer to Itasca

along the ELgin-Ohare, you'd have parts of Schaumburg and Roselle, Medinah is nice too.. it's unincorporated ... but your newer homes will have been "tear downs" into larger homes. you will get more land .. no city lots.

There is Elk Grove.

I would not go East of Itasca ... that's just wood dale and bensenville.

Did you consider Glen Ellyn or Bloomingdale?

... just tossing some towns out there, that would not have a bad commute.

We have visited several towns a couple of weeks ago and we really liked Bartlett. Only about 10 miles from Itasca, not sure about the commute...probably 35 min?

I'd say that's a good guestimate.

As I'm really not familiar with the U46 school district... many say to avoid it.

I'd research that, do a search in here on the U46 School district and see what others have to say.

Out in that direction, you do get more for your money out there, and it's been growing - as everyone is heading west. I have a friend out there, she was also my son's chem teacher -- who wants to move back to Itasca, but for the school dist, certainly not the cost of homes.

OH -- i also want to add... i honestly feel you also get out of your education what you put into it.

An old friend of mine felt she got a terrible education, where i felt the reverse .. i thought i got a great one ... we'd been in the same school since we were 5 [kindergarten thru high school] and i just told her... "i got out of it what i put into it" and she was one that if she didn't want to go, she didn't go.

I know there is a very good "school" link in here for researching schools, but i neglected to bookmark it.

hopefully someone will have it and you can research the local school system in Bartlett.

greatschools.org is the best. The schools are actually very good even though they are a part of the U46. There are only two that look kinda of bad and they are closer to Elgin, otherwise they are a 9/10 on greatschools...
