Default Joliet/New Lenox..schools and "cookie cutter" homes

I will apologize now...this post became a bit longer than I hoped.
This is my first post after having read many posts on this site....which I find to be VERY informational...and interesting. I moved to this area a few months ago from the Tinley area...Im actually on the far east side of Joliet...and yes I have seen the posts about the "east" side of Joliet....but as I've seen in many posts about many areas they are alot of perception that may or may not be true of many areas. Anyway, my point is that I live in a new home in Joliet...just off of Rt. 6 and Gougar...that after looking in Tinley,Orland,New Lenox,Manhattan,Minooka...just to name a few.....and wanting to stay in the Tinley/Orland area I built and moved out here. But it took alot of looking and weighing options....the existing homes in the area I originally looked at would need work in my price range...and I didnt want a "cookie cutter" home....or one "shabbily" constructed....I work too hard for my money. So I found an area that is quiet.....and a home that isnt too big...not a cookie cutter, that I was able to make changes to inside and out to make it more "mine"...and in a location with great acces to anywhere I need to go....especially work.

I'm posting this because I have seen many posts refering people to the far west side of Joliet..or Plainfield....Im not too familiar with those areas so I can't comment....but for me it was too long of a commute to areas that we work in and visit....for us the location of the 355 extension and all that will go with it made this a great choice for us. We are just far enough away and in a small cul-de-sac....where traffic isnt even an issue....for now and the future..I hope

My ultimate reason for posting is this....this is a GREAT site for info....but to know an area as it is now...you really need to visit it...including the schools....test scores dont tell everything.....trying visiting the school while it is in session....most schools would be very happy to give you a tour....see the programs/teachers in action...websites dont always give the teachers enough credit. Im in N.L township..so I have NL elementary school..and yes Joliet HS......which we considered in our decision....but again weighed all the other benefits. And in buying your home.....look not only at the price...but if its used...what work will you have to do.....and if its new....the what is included in the price...and can you make "changes". I learned ALOT in this
process, as this is my first "new" home....and found that sometimes in new homes that "low"price to get you in the door......didnt include much....and as I said I work too hard for my money...as we all do.....to invest it in something that in the end isn't what I really wanted.

So good luck to all of you looking for homes/schools...I couldn't be happier where I am.......again sorry for rambling.

Sounds like you are over near Neufairfield, and yes, that part of East Joliet is very nice. You are far enough East that you are past the "bad" East side and in the nice part near New Lenox and Lockport.

actually I do live just east of Neufairfield...its very quiet and pretty here...hopefully the area on the north side of 6 will stay as a preserve....its a beautiful view. We are very happy here....now with 355 it makes getting places so much faster.

Sorry to hear about your neumann problem...hopefully it will work out for everyone in the NEAR future. Anyway, we actually do live in Weston Way...and it is a bit "cooky" driving thru Neufairfiedl....but we are on a cul-de sac so it makes it very quiet...and we take walks thru neufairfield and its very nice.
In regards to Weston Way, when we were looking we went to many areas and subdivisions...as I stated earlier. We went with this subdivision because of the location, variety of houses, size.....I think its going to be nice being in a smaller subdivision.....and especially the quality and features for the price. At first the starting prices look "high" low 300's....but we found that low posted prices elsewhere didnt mean much when it came to what was included. Also, we wanted to make some minor changes in some of the things we saw in houses...to avoids the "cookie cutter" look....and we were able to do that here...with that in mind and ALL of the standard features INCLUDED and wide range of choices available...we couldnt be happier. I would suggest taking a look at the different plans available..and what is included......this is my first new home so I didnt even realize some of the quality features missing in other home until I saw those included here.

Reading this post and many others I wish more people would give Joliet a chance. The vast improvements they are making and continue to make are huge. That goes for the east and west side. People forget that this is not a small town but a large city with plenty of ethnic and financial diversity. I believe when people realize this they will take advantage of the housing in this area and help this city continue its move towards success. On location alone it becomes a major player in all things commercial. Again I just get tired of people speaking of Joliet as if its a town of 10,000 gang bangers and drug dealers. The more solid people move in the more our community will grow and benefit.

I think people are giving Joliet a chance, that's why it's one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
