I grew up in Oak Park, and after 13 years in NJ finally have the opportunity to move back to IL. My husband is working on getting a job at Abbott and we are looking to live in Lake Co. Anything Oak Park like that won't break the bank? I have heard that Gurnee and Grayslake have the best schools (my boys are 4 and 8) , but I haven't been there lately to see any changes. I have never lived in IL as a grownup and I am at a loss, all advice will be very much appreciated.

All I can say is the price real estate prices are much worse than NJ. That's something I can't even fathom. I should add this pertains to the area I looked at which is Lake Co., I believe.

You're right, real estate is shockingly different. Luckily we bought low in this area and will end up with a bit of cash to play with, not much though. We may have to end up in Wisconson, but having grown up a Bears fan I can't imagine that!
