Why should we stick to ourselves? I interact on a regular basis with my neighbors. I have a carpool with one of them and our kids play together all the time. One of our other neighbors comes over frequently and we exchange lawn implements every week. No one seems to resent us for it.

I don't care if you are black or white, your kids will have a much better education in an area such as Orland Park.

Many of the worst ghetto blacks and their families have been forced out of the city. Even in Humboldt Park, the blacks are moving out as the hispanics move in. I have never had any problems with the hispanics but am constantly calling the police for blacks with loud music, yelling and cursing at all hours, dealing and smoking drugs. Just this morning a black guy (usually not females) ask me for money. This happens at least every week.

These same people will be coming to your area. Your house is worth less than 200K I believe. The home prices are simply not high enough to keep the riff raff out. I would get out while you can. By the way all home values went up in Chicago the past 10 years. Relative to other areas how did Lansing fare?

By the way, right or wrong the first wave of blacks that enter a neighborhood as white flight begins are more affluent and educated than the later arrivals. If the first black family that moved in sold drugs they would be forced out in a matter of months if not sooner.

And usually after more and more riff raff arrive law abiding blacks including you will move out to greener pastures. My guess is as you are able to afford a nicer place (your house is really cheap, even condos in humboldt sell for more) you will move. I will be surprised and disappointed if someone as educated and intelligent as you (you are clearly bright by your posts) will let their kids live in an area like Lansing will become in 10 years.

End of the day it is not about race but money. If you can afford to live in a better area do it for the sake of your children.
I am sorry , everything you hear from this is wrong. Igrew up on the southwest side of chicago moved to tinley park were my landlord turned beautiful apt. into section8 as for the race thing everyone has bad in there race it's inevitable if your kid is going to be bad i know of kids that went to private schools and went to prison so how is that make a difference. as for any school it is what your kid makes of it. We have many kids that went to the pros from TF south. Yes times change, but if a community like lansing is going to change it will be based on good not bad. I live here I'll stay and raise my kids here and raise them well because I choose to stay involved in there lives. As for programs there are many sports, church programs, etc.. if you are worried about the races, well I hate to tell you this but there are different races in every community and if you can't learn to live with them chalk it up pal cause immigration from all races is everywhere. Best advice stay involved in your community and with your kids and remember this "Home is where you make it".

South's Test scores are now so bad that they dont pass state standards, and its gone to the point were there going to cut gym for the incoming Freshman. There has been an INCREASE in crime (I have a police scanner) and this really sucks.
Yes this is true there will be no gym for incoming freshman, but the reason for this is if your child does not meet the 2.0 gpa he/she will not participate in these activities, which in my eyes is the best thing that could happen if you can't do well in class you don't need any other activities you need to learn to read and write. Oh and by the way my son is white, Iam white and he has a GPA of 3.86 and is on the football team, which by the way went undefeated the first time in school history (freshman). He has never been called a "cracker" or a racist maybe your kid portrays himself that way. And incase you didn't know the word "cracker" was a term used by the slaves for their masters who cracked the whip on the unruly slaves. Sir or Mam I am sorry crime happens, immigration happens, change happens, but if you lived anywhere else in the state of Illinois you know this happens all over. If white is all you want good luck finding it, if you like lansing get involved with a watch program or start one crime can only continue if we let it ,as for TF south alot of students there are from other towns not lansing, if you don't like that tell lynwood build there own school. Remember we are the human race all of us, not just one if we learn to live together we will all be better off.

Where in Tinley Park is there section 8? I can think of one apartment complex in Orland Hills that is section 8, but I can't think of any in Tinley.

Hopefully, we try to work through the changes, and not feel that leaving is the answer.

The only reason anyone has given for leaving is that black people are moving to Lansing. The crime rate hasn't risen because of it. What has changed?

Also, did anyone have any damage from the tornado/storm last night? We had about a thousand branches in our yard to pick up this morning, but that's it.

Default Crime in Lansing

I disagree. Crime has risen with the influx of minorities from Chicago. Violent crime in particular. The facts indicate that some of these black folks moving here are also bringing their violent lifestyle with them. That is what is difficult for me to understand because if you ask some these people as I have they will tell you that they moved to Lansing to get away from the urban warfare. They live in contradiction to their stated desires. This is not racist. I am a police officer here and see first hand the violent trends.

Default this confirms what I said

The first black arrivals are usually well behaved. Were they not, the local residents would not allow them to move into their neighborhoods in the first place.

It is the latter arrivals that cause problems and those remaining good residents finally leave. Many of the initial black residents will also flee to greener pastures just like their white counterparts.

To the poster that said diversity is. everywhere, you are mistaken. Wilmette and Kenilworth are pretty white last time I checked. With a few exceptions most of the minorities you see there are the help (mostly domestic).

For the record, no one in my family has beeb arrested or ever spent anytime in jail. It is not about being white. It is about being raised right by good parents. Many are not as fortunate as I was.

Skye,

It is also about being around the right influences (no gangs, drugs, alcohol, etc). I wish you well in raising your children against formidable bad influences in Lansing.

Tony,
I would like to hear more from you and your experiences.

Tinley Park absolutely has Section 8 voucher holders. They administered by the Housing Authority of the County of Cook. They don't herd them all into special apartment complexes FYI. One can use a voucher on any available apartment in the City. Tinley doesn't have the number of vouchers that Calumet City, Harvey and Justice do, but it does have them.
