That doesn't bode well if TFS has always been that bad.
This is in Glenwood, but there is a farm stand called Zeldenrust (who I believe has family connections to Lansing) that is really nice. The employees are really friendly and have no problem giving me gardening tips.

So, are black folks the only ones losing homes to foreclosure? Oh, no, it's just the blacks in the subdivision of $600,000+ homes.
I'd suggest you look at the mortgage brokers, banks, developers(?) who probably falsified papers to get those families in those homes!!!
I wonder how many white folks will be on the first flight to the moon?

Amen!!! I don't live in Lansing, but Area55's comments are "right on" for any area you find yourself living in.

Regardless of race, the burden is on the home buyer to understand how much they can afford and understand how their mortgage is structured.
If you can't afford a $600,000 house, don't buy it - you only set your family up for financial ruin, and damage everyone in the neighborhood's property value, and destroy communities property tax streams.
Hell, I'd love a Bentley but I have enough sense to know I can't afford it - even if it is offered to me at $500 a month.

All this racism, maybe if the white folks (I am white) stop running away to a new subdivison every time someone of a minority moves in, then all this crime wouldn't happen. Decent People of all colors could co-exist. Look at Oak PArk for example the home prices rose, people of all races get along. Here we are in the south suburbs everybody is flocking to some new home in Crown Point or Manteno or watever else is hot now a days. It is sick, literally sick, and now when my area becomes crime infested because of all the peoples house values falling because everyone is moving, I will be forced to move too.

Regardless of the crime or whatever reason whites give for moving, I think that most people are more comfortable living with people of the same race or religion or economic situation or both. How it always has been and won't change anytime soon. Not sure why everyone thinks it is bad or wrong, people just want to live where they feel most comfortable.
I would say that most (not all) black people feel more comfortable around blacks, whites around whites, Indians around Indians (not Native Americans), Muslims around Muslims, $100k+ income around $100k income etc. Doesn't make you a racist, classist, etc - just the type of person you relate to and feel comfortable around.
I am white and would not want to live in an area where I was a minority or was living below or above my means - not that I have some dislike for other races or people making more or less than me, just where I feel and where my family feels most comfortable.

I don't agree with that. The suburbs of Chicago is very mixed with people of all races, colors, creeds and that what makes the Chicagoland so unique and interesting. How are you able to identify with people different than you when all you interact with and live by is people of the same race? If you had children would you want them only to play with and interact with kids of their same skin color? As far as I see it, it just adds to the problems that many Chicago suburbs and soceity in general face today.

Suburbs and Chicago are segregated
ParkForest,
I think Chicago and its suburbs are not as diverse as many think. Oak Park is extremely mixed (65% White, 25% black, 10% other) as a whole. However, it is whiter and more affluent as you go north and west and approach River Forest. As you go east and south and approach Austin it is more black and less affluent.
Those suburbs that are diverse such as Lansing generally do not stay diverse. They either go one way or another. Oak Park is an anomaly due to its close proximity to the city and affluent population base, but even it has pockets that are more white or more black.
I wish people would stop blaming whites for moving out. It is also the best and brightest blacks who are moving out too to seek greener pastures. The real culprits are those who are moving in who are doing the crimes, not those that are moving out.

I'm not blaming whites (I'm white). It just that whenever people talk of the South Suburbs it always turns into something about race or how so and so is moving from the area. We have something to be proud of in the south burbs and it's because we actually are trying or tried, depends on how you look at it, to make diversity work. It's something to look up too.
But lately you are right. Some Chicago suburbs are not as diverse as people think because everyone keeps moving out or seperating from one another and sooner or later our attempt at diversity is going to fail. Then what?

Just b/c a place has people of varied walks of life (race, education, economic, etc.) doesn't mean they necessarily interact with each other and that people don't tend to congregate mainly with people of similar backgrounds.
NWI has all sorts of people, but most of the AA and Hispanic people are in the northern sections of Lake County, while the central and southern parts of Lake County are primarily Caucasian (many of whom are upset when the minority presence in their community increases).
I agree with Humboldt1. If the new entrants to a community are friendly, law abiding and stick to themselves, the established people in the area will have no reason to resent them or move out. If not, they'll be less likely to stay.
