Hi! Due to career opportunity in Kenosha, WI, our family will be moving within the next few months. We are mid-30's and have an almost 3 year old, so a good solid family area with good preschools, school systems, public or private, are essential. Willing to commute about 20-25 minutes for the job for buying a home. I am a SAHM and would love to touch base with any moms groups as well, as I am currently an organizer of the one here in PA. So what can you all tell me about the areas - good and bad! Having to move sight unseen is a little unnerving so I appreciate anything you can tell me. Thanks!

I think you will find more folks that work in Kenosha tend to live on the Wisconsin side of the border. The actual value of property taxes and income taxes are not the only factor, generally towns like Pleasant Prarie and even Kenosha tend to have a nicer "quality of life" than towns like Winthrop Harbor or Gurnee...

The housing market in Southeastern Wisconsin is generally more affordable than in Northeastern Illinois. If you decide to send your kid to public school, you could move to Bristol. If you decide to send your kid to private school, you could also live in Pleasant Prairie or Kenosha. There's a k-8 private school in Kenosha called Armitage Academy that I've heard very good things about. Not sure about preschools, but I know there isn't one in Bristol, but there's some nearby.
