You could live along Milwaukee Ave the 270 bus runs frequently and goes right to Jeff Park. Also the UP-NW stops in Jefferson Park so anything along that line. Desplaines.

As I understand you work in Jefferson Park. Why not look there or in the surrounding areas? Its safe there and there are parts of the far northwest side of Chicago that are very similar to suburbs, such as Norwood Park. Why go all the way out to DesPlaines or Skokie?
