The reason I hate Phoneix and prefer Wasco? For one, the weather. I dont like prolonged and absurdly hot summers. I also prefer 4 seasons and snowfall. I prefer Wasco's schools anyday over those found in Phoenix, and I prefer the housing styles found in the midwest over those found in the southwest (minus true adobe homes found in Santa Fe). I prefer Chicagoland's restaurants over those found in Phoenix, as well as a million other things. As far as sprawl, both are grotesque. |

Wasco, by what I have seen, and by your own description, is flat out boring. I would rather live in the city of Gilbert, than the subdivision of Wasco. Again, this isn't my opinion alone! You forget, Phoenix and its metro are growing at a speed FAR beyond what midwestern cities can keep up with, including places like your beloved Wasco. You also expect people to believe that Chicago automcatically grew huge skyscrapers and Navy Pier the first day of its founding? Chicago spread out, in repsect to its day and age, just like Phoenix is doing now. Chicago has not always been the city that it is now. Yes, maybe Joliet is growing at a nice rate. But Joliet also has horrible schools, lots of crime, gangs, and a bad downtown. Saying that parts of Chicago are growing at a fast rate, does not tell the whole story.

And while Joliet's downtown isnt the greatest, it sure is better than Gilbert's. Sure parts of town have problems, but so does Gilbert, funny how you dont mention that. |

LMBO!!!!!!! So [Wasco] is "a good place to live" and Gilbert is "another boring sprawlburb of Phoenix"!!! Your comparisions are so far out there that they don't even deserve a decent response!! Also, our obsession with loving absolute Illinois armpits like that Joliet and Aurora (yuck), and disliking cities that take the expression, "on the move" to a whole new level, is beyond me, and I would venture to say everyone else on this board. Joliet, Aurora, and Elgin, time and time again make the whole state look bad, and guess what, you live relativly right next to all three! Just because you hate heat, and don't like desert living, does not make Joliet or any other Chicagoland dump, better than Gilbert, Arizona that, by the way, is doing very well for itself. I mean, I have read your posts where you speak so highly of Naperville, and then bash Scottsdale. How in the world does that even begin to make sense?! South Naperville, the biggest portion of Naperville, is one of the most hideous places that one could ever expect to live. Talk about soul-less and ugly! Can't you see that your beloved Naperville is just as sprawl happy and "ugly" as any city in Phoenix?! I trully mean that! Just because you live in an extension of those "armpits" in Chicagoland does not make Phoenix itself, or its burbs any less desirable. In any thought, I am done with trying to convince you. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about, and have far less experience in Phoenix than you let on. You trully are missing out on some amazing Arizona locations, yes even in Phoenix, if you think that flipp'n "run of the mill" Wasco is better that them. I have been to Phoenix many times, and I know that most people turn up their nose's at you when you mention you are from the midwest. I get that many in that area think Illinois, including Chicago, is cheap and trashy. In my opinion, your incesent bashing of Phoenix is no different than their snobby Phoenix/Scottsdale attitudes. It is all a matter of perspective. I'm sorry, but loving Chicagoland sprawl, and hating Phoenix sprawl, is one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard of. Enjoy your little life in soul-less, sprawl-tastic, no character, congested, ugly Warrenville. |

I thought this verbal sparring was getting interesting! I remember Wasco, when it was just the wasco inn and the post office! I grew up in St. Charles, but not in town..rural, unincorporated St. Charles..truthfully, that is all wasco really was..unincorporated area west of st. charles. Haven't been to arizona, so I can't jump in on that thread!

http://z.about.com/d/phoenix/1/5/d/u/1/gilbert02.jpg Yet he/she rips on downtown Joliet? Anyways... wanna know what Gilbert is like? Drive down Randall Road between Algonquin and Crystal Lake, and substitute our cookie cutters with Arizona's wanna-be Meditteranean/pseudo-adobe cookie cutters and there you have it. Then drive to the next town and BAM! Same thing. Repeat until youre blue in the face. |
