I really like St. James, but would do photos there in the fall, when the tree allees are bright and colorful.

If this is indeed a springtime shoot, I would put Cantigny at the top of the list. Nothing can compare when it comes to setting a colorful backdrop. So much variety too with the mansion, flowers, reflection pool, pond, pergolas, tanks, etc.
Cantigny Gardens

Also, Danada. Horses, rolling hills, and prairie grass. And speaking of family, the Danada Fall Festival is amazing, check it out.

I'm planning on checking out Lilacia Park at some point this Spring. The Lilac Parade/Festival is on May 17th, so I'm assuming that is when the park is at it's best.

I took the family there last year on a nice spring afternoon. The colors and smells were nice, but the crowds were intense. I don't see being able to take family photos there without getting bombed by peds.

During the festival itself, or just on a normal Spring day? I had no idea it was such a draw.

Warm spring afternoon, weekend of course. No festival. People were just starting to come out of hibernation, so that may have had something to do with the crowds. The footprint is small, so it can fill up fast.

Chicago and it's suburbs are littered with the locations.
that's way too broad of a question.

as a side note..
Make sure that you read through the requirements of the parks/townships.
Many gardens require you to have a day / event permits; so do townships.
