This thread is hard to follow! Somehow some folks are getting a hyperlink or another post, giving information about the location of the house in the thread, and I cannot find any! I guess I missed a post, too!....... The only comment I can make given the lack of info, is renter beware! In this day and age I would be quite leery of using a water supply from a well, especially so close to a major metropolitan area. Another item not mentioned was snow-plowing service. Unincorporated areas get plowed by the county and that may or may not be slower service.

We didn't, to be honest, we are glad we didn't get it (we did put an offer), after we heard alot of bad stories with the well and its water.

Are they any other unexpecvted surprises with unincorporated areas? I know things like Police and fire are usually included, but garbage isnt.

We made an offer for another place in Lombard, but it has lake water and public sewer.

Holl1ngsworth has pointed out sections of Winfield that go to Wheaton Schools, and they are incorporated with full services. There may be bargains on the fringes of Lisle as well. And perhaps Warrenville.

Wheaton is nicer than Lombard, but Lombard is not at all bad. I am sure if you keep looking you will find something just don't look in unincorporated areas.

Any reasons why not?

We are looking at this house in Lombard:

https://www.redfin.com/IL/Lombard/21.../home/14177816

We both really like it tbh, and it doesnt have a well, so thats a plus

Edit: We are looking at either Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Lombard because it is both convient for us to go to work. I work in Donwers Grove and my Mrs is working in Addison.

Our budget is around $250K for a single family home.

It's a nice house, but it's definitely overpriced imo.
