please stop bashing the people of harvey, true they do vote these idiots in, the mayor is the person who is responsible for this city, majority of the citizens in harvey are hard working people, good people, they deserve better. i hope when it is time for the next election they wake up and do the right thing, enough is enough, call the authorities and demand they watch the poles, that is where they really steal the votes.

i don't think there are that many hard working people in harvey. unless you call being a cop and escorting drug dealers cocaine shipments as hard working. this is, in part, to chicago knocking down their projects. harvey has been flooded with section 8 and welfare types. it's not like they weren't there 20 years ago but they still have more than they did in the past. In fact, harvey has more people on government assistance than any other southern cook county town. just take a ride through harvey around 1 or 2pm and you'll see all kinds of 40 year olds on the block chilling in groups. selling drugs? i don't know. drinking? it's evident. i just don't think harvey is a staple for hard work unless it is peddling drugs, pimping, or committing robberies. check their crime statistics. it just keeps getting worse.
can you say a larger version of Ford Heights? I can.

and they only have the stats from '07. 2008 was a horrible year for Harvey. wait until those stats go up on the website...

I don't pretend to know Harvey's political scene very well but my guess is the "idiots" are in because of widespread voter ambivalence and a lack of civic mindedness in the city generally. I doubt there's much vote stealing going on, except to the extent allowed by citizens asleep at the switch. Unfortunately, the residents of such a community have to bear a large measure of the blame for this.
Instead of yelling at the "authorities" about it, how about the concept of the citizens coming out and voting -- or putting up a candidate who will serve their best interests?

I didn't think it could get much worse. Infact, I saw a new CVS drug store on 147th and Chicago Rd.

And a new Beggars Pizza and a Coffee Cafe on sibley in North part of Harvey. With some street smarts, it simple to live in Harvey. Its better than living in the hoods in the city like Englewood or Lawndale where its literally a grocery desert. Harvey this year has improve since 2007.

I sure did see that Beggars as a matter of fact. Did they close the Joe River Center though?
