Cool Time To Take Change

...however

When the city decided to tear down Cabrini Green and give all the trash that lived there housing vouchers (because we all know its not a hand out, its just a hand) my home town, in just a matter of 3 or 4 years, turned from a nice middle class neighborhood to worse than Harvey.

It makes me sick!!!!!

And how funny that if you read the homepage, so delicately worded by honorable mayor Michelle Qualkenbush, it states how safe of a place Calumet City is to RAISE YOUR CHILDREN.

Let me please inform anybody misguided enough to want to bring your children to Calumet City, your better off sending them to Iraq, at least that way they have a possibility of coming out alive.

I now live in Las Vegas, NV and went home this past October to visit my family. It has now gotten so bad over the past year that I have been gone, that I refused to walk the block and a half down to McDonalds because the sun had already set.

My grandmother, during a phone call last week, informed me they arrested 4 teenage girls for beating people with wrenches and robbing them outside Moderator cut: rude River Oaks.

Sad to see what the department of Housing and Urban Development actually see's as urban development, destroying perfectly nice cities by bussing in trash.
okay, maybe if all the decent people would not move then cal city would be better. dont get me wrong i hate being here, but i found a GREAt sollution. first, to all you decent people who want cal city back, stop complaining and relocate you and your friends and family to cal city, its affordable and the houses near legoinal hall are VERY nice. next, contact any one you graduated with and telll them to move back out to cal city. we are going to change call city and make it the best suburb again. we are not going to let our child hood memories fade away into a city that is about to become a next harvey. if yor a little worried about the schools, send your child to saint andrews at least till thing get better. and remember the times you had when the city WAS okay. your first kiss........your first home coming dance...........we can get it all back for our children to expirence. move near legiona; hall or closer to river oaks. try to avoid near pulaski. from about elizebeth street and down mear river oaks are the great neighbor hoods. we can purify the city and make it a HIT again!!!!!!!please take this serious, i know its hard but it will be worth it trust! we may have to even move into the raggedy houses and makethem beautiful

I've met her several times and had several conversations with her, she is a very nice and very polite girl.
Do try and keep the cinicism to a minimum, I do not respond to it well.
Yeah, the name-dropper admonishes me to keep the cynicism to a minimum.

I'm not interested in what kind of person Paris Hilton is so much as I'm poking fun at the notion that name-dropping adds authority to one's argument or claim. I used to work at a major concert venue. I could do a lot of name-dropping too, but it's pretty pointless except to try to brag. And while Paris may be a perfectly sweet person, I'm not particularly moved by the fact that you've had a cocktail with her as a way of demonstrating your own social standing.

Furthermore, I have no interest whatsoever in how well you receive me or my posts. You don't mean nearly enough to me for me to care, and there's an excellent chance you never will.

Comparing Paris to Hitler huh. Seems pretty harsh and far fetched.

Where did you come from??? Go back to your own silly forums. This has nothing to do with you.

Calumet City has been in a state of decline for MANY years. It is indeed a shame that things have gotten even worse there.

Relocating from a very economically depressed location to an area where employment opprotunities ARE available seems like an excellent decision...infact for someone interested in entering the workforce it would seem to be the ONLY LOGICAL decision.
There is A LOT of money to be made in Las Vegas and that is one of the many reasons people move there. Some find success others don't, some don't find what they were looking for there and move on. My opinion is that moving was a PROACTIVE choice for the person who started this thread. I have respect for anyone who has the resources and courage to move forward in life rather than remain a victim of their geographical circumstance. Really, its a shame that so many people are having to leave the Calumet region to find gainful employment but those who do are showing strength rather than weakness of character.

It wasnt so much the name, it could have been anybody, but more of a defensive comment in rebuttal to the comments of Las Vegas being a city of Low-income vagrants. Ask anybody living in Calumet City, or any city for that matter, if they would like to relocate to Vegas.
I guarantee you a decent percentage of them would say yes. I live in one of the most amazing cities in the world and compared to that trash dump I lived in for 21 years, I would have to say sorry, but your defending a lost cause. Calumet City will never be what it used to be, sad but true.

I agree with SoHoVe's post and applaud the OP for having the courage to realize a bd situation and move to Vegas. That was a big risk and he should be applauded for his courage (I'm assuming the OP is a Male; sorry if not).
As a side to what SoHoVe said about people leaving the Calumet region, there are also lots of people STAYING here and not doing well at all. Many (if not most) of the people that I knew here between 22-32 YO still live at home, b/c they can't afford to move out. They may never leave. A lot of it is their own fault (bad decisions, laziness, etc).
The OP realized Cal City has no future and that his life would not go very well by staying there and moved to a place that is considered to have more opportunity. On the same token, everyone and their mother moves to Vegas for a 'better life' and many (if not most) of them fail. The OP was able to succeed, so he must have done many things right along the way.
It's not a hard question: Where would you rather live: Las Vegas, NV or Calumet City, IL?
