Well, it IS mostly white. That is a fact. A black kid WAS constantly harassed by the police. That is also a fact. Most of the non-whites I have met there act pretty white. I mean, really, what else do you call a minority that wears The North Face in the winter and Abercrombie year round? As for them being boring, just my opinion. Racist though? Boy you people really are from the suburbs. And assuming you will get a "beat down" if you walk around Maywood or Little Village because you are white? Sounds pretty racist to me.

OK, OK, stop this nonsense. No need to bash on poor Naperville.

Much of what you said could also be applied to what I observed growing up in the North Shore also. But like some of the others said, racism does go both ways. I don't think the vatos locos in the 'hoods of Little Village would be too thrilled about some Caucasians taking a stroll through their 'hood, and certainly the Puerto Ricans out in Humboldt Park aren't exactly ecstatic about the enroaching gentrification from nearby Logan Square and Wicker Park/Bucktown. At least in the more affluent areas, it's just a select few older folks that might give you the weird looks if anything. As long as you don't look like a bum or a thug, you're probably alright even in the eyes of the police. At least that's been my experience as a minority going about my business in the North Shore (really not too different from the affluent portions of DuPage County including Naperville except for more of those older money pockets up here mainly near the lake).

Im white and have been pulled over by a black cop in Aurora and one in Oklahoma. Dang, I must have been profiled. Not to mention the fact that Ive been pulled over and harassed by cops more times than I can count. Fact is, you break the law, youll get pulled over, regardless of race. And uh, Ive seen rappers wearing North Face stuff in their videos, as well as clothes that make Abercrombie look like stuff you find at the Salvation Army. Brands mean nothing when it comes to race, thats ridiculous. And yes, there have been several attacks on whites in Chicago and surrounding suburbs, simply because of race. Remember that incident around old Comiskey a few years back? The attackers beat 2 white guys almost to the point of death, the reason being that they didnt want white people in their neighborhood. And what about the racist Latino on black murders in L.A? No reason other than they hate people of another race. Like I said, NOONE is immune from racism. Its sad, but its the honest truth.

Well, North Face is very popular among the young student generation today. When I see girls wearing NF jackets w/ tote bags and Ugg boots it makes me wonder.

Yeah, "The Nape" is kinda North Face jacket and Ugg boots central.
The NW suburbs are attractive, due to proximity to Naperville, North Shore, and Chicago, as well as all the jobs and retail available in the Woodfield matrix.
I'm an out-of-towner (Detroit area, currently in Champaign) that visits Chicago often. The traffic on the NW Tollway/Kennedy Expressway is among the worst in the region. If I was commuting into Chicago ... scratch that, I wouldn't want to live in the suburbs and commute into the city. Ever.

I have a friend that moved to Naperville in her late 20's. She bought a nice towhome there about 2 miles outside of downtown Naperville. She loves Naperville itself and feels safe there. However, it's done nothing for her social life. Now in her early 30's and still single. Her neighbors are nice, but all married or couples. Downtown Naperville is happening but she won't go out alone and none of her friends live in the area so they're not going to always go out that way to socialize. She did volunteer work at the area hospital, joined the health club and the Chamber of Commerce in an effort to meet other singles to hang out with. It didn't work for her. Not that it won't for you. But I think the allure of Naperville is the housing and schools - I think it's still more attractive to families than it is to singles.

Maybe she would have had better luck in Evanston or Schaumburg. Is she a Democrat? Naperville doesn't like Democrats.
