Hi All,

Hi All, we are considering putting in an offer on a house in unincorporated Barrington. I have no experience with unincorporated areas, (I have lived in apartments and condos the entirety of my adult life) and from my research it can vary by neighborhood. Does anyone live in or have any advice for someone considering this area? It's in Palatine Township, if that helps. Thanks!

Check the water smell (like when you run the shower) - sometimes well water can smell a bit off, esp. if you are very sensitive to such things.

Not all houses in unincorporated areas have well water, but it's not uncommon. Check the listing to see what type of water it has. Also, check to see if it has a septic sewer because that's not uncommon either. I used to live in an area with well water. It wasn't that bad, but the main issue was that my white clothes had a yellow tint to then that was noticeable, so I started going to the laundromat or I would wash my clothes at my mom's house. I haven't lived anywhere with a septic sewer, but I know people who do and you can smell it when you're in the backyard. Personally, I would never live in a house with a septic sewer, but I would live in a house with well water although it's not preferable.

Thanks! The particular house we are looking at has both well water and a septic sewer.

Smile unincorporated Barrington

I live in unincorporated Barrington. We are on a well and have a septic system. We have absolutely no problem with our water situation. An R/O system will take all the impurities out and our water purification system makes any water coming into our house close to normal city water. Barrington is a great community with terrific schools and close transportation to downtown as well by train.
