Naperville is the quintessential suburban town - great place to raise a family.

You can find asian restaurants and markets easily in Northbrook. I don't like it there though b/c it is very clique-ish. I'm not sure about Naperville, but I imagine it would be friendlier.

I disagree, there certainly is a difference in price between East and West Northbrook (I know because I am looking for a house - preferably in East Northbrook right now!). the land itself will cost you about $800k-1mm for 3/4 of an acre in East Northbrook (east of Waukegan) but closer to $500k-$600k in West Northbrook (west of the high school).

If we assume the rest of the house (construction) is equally priced this means that the same house in West Northbrook will cost you at least $300-400k less than it would in East NB. East Northbrook has more of a "North Shore" look and feel to it with prices to boot, West Northbrook is more similar to West Glenview, Buffalo Grove, etc (upper middle class communities) with relatively more affordable housing. There are obviously exceptions to this and Northbrook is socioeconomically diverse, but in this town of more that 40,000 people, the eastern part is certainly the most affluent.

Default think about resale, even as you move in

If you are deciding between Northbrook or Naperville, and you are new to the Chicagoland area, think about resale. Northbrook has a much higher resale potential than Naperville. Northbrook is considered much more affluent than Naperville. Areas surrounding Naperville are average suburbs. Areas surrounding Northbrook are above average. Check area closings for the past six months in Northbrook v.s. Naperville and you will get your answer to which suburb is better for you to move in. If you move to either suburb and don't like it there, which will be easier to move out of? Consider long term and your decision will be easier.
