I am putting in a transfer to work at OHare for United Airlines. I will be making around 16.50/hr and commuting to and from Cleveland, Ohio and ORD about 3-4 days a week until I have enough to move. What are the best locations around O'Hare to find a reasonable studio apartment with easy access to the airport. Will live further away as long as a train or bus will get me to ORD. Sorta safe area (just dont wanna live at the OK Corral)

All I really need is a bed and shower because I will be setting out on this adventure alone until the wife and kids join...

Thoughts/Suggestions?

It's good that you're flexible with what you want to live in and where you want to live. What's your budget?

Your price range is a studio or 1 bedroom here. Look at Mt Prospect, Prospect Heights, Des Plaines, Wood Dale, Niles.

You can look much closer to the airport than the above areas - you can look at Cumberland Ave and the Kennedy Expressway area - still technically Chicago. There are many, MANY apartments (2 flats, 3 flats and apartment complexes) in that area, and it caters to the airline employee crowd. You can also look in Edison Park and Norwood Park (neighborhoods of Chicago just a little bit to the east of the Cumberland/Kennedy Expwy area) - basically off the Harlem Ave stop on the "L". All very safe areas.

Sounds good I will look into those areas. Are the price ranges reasonable around O'Hare. I would assume not many people would want to live near a major airport

Prices are reasonable. Although you'd be surprised at how many people willingly choose to live near O'Hare. There are several higher end neighborhoods with pricey homes in O'hare's flight paths.
